E-Cigarette Emissions
- Test consistent delivery of nicotine as required by TPD (2014/40/EU)
- Puff-by-puff analysis of e-cigarette emissions including nicotine, PG, VG, carbonyls, and flavor compounds
- Fast and sensitive measurements
- Ultra-low limits of detection in seconds
- High mass resolving power for accurate identification
- Coupling with puffing machine by a dilution system
Background
E-Cigarette Emissions
E-cigarettes are devices employed to vaporize e-liquids containing nicotine and flavor compounds. Existing and emerging governmental regulations impose testing emissions in tobacco products including e-cigarettes. For example, the Tobacco Products Directive (2014/40/EU) of the European Commission prescribes delivery of nicotine doses at consistent levels and reporting of emissions. Besides nicotine, e-cigarette emission may contain aldehydes such as acrolein and harmful and potentially harmful constituents (HPHCs).
Due to its ultra-high sensitivity, high resolving power, and large dynamic range, the Vocus CI-TOF is at present the only analytical device that can assess consistent delivery of nicotine and maximum emission of HPHC puff-by puff in real-time during e-cigarette vaping by a puffing machine.
