Laser Ablation Spot Analysis and Multi-Element Imaging of Minerals
In Earth Science, a common interest is the study of earth materials, like rocks and minerals, as well as fluid inclusions within them. For such studies it is important to measure the chemical composition of minerals, and to understand their internal chemical zoning. The “bulk composition” of a mineral can be measured for example by laser ablation spot analysis, and their internal chemical zoning can be revealed by laser ablation imaging. The icpTOF is a powerful tool for Earth Science applications when coupled to laser ablation for sample introduction. A particular strength of the icpTOF is high-speed, high-resolution, multi-elemental imaging of minerals.
