Gas Chromatography Coupled to Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry Using Parallel Electron and Chemical Ionization with Permeation Tube Facilitated Reagent Ion Control for Material Emission Analysis

This study demonstrates improved compound identification when fragment information from electron ionization with sum formula information generated from the chemical ionization is combined using the TOFWERK ecTOF mass spectrometer. Several scenarios are shown where the comprehensive data set is used to identify unknown compounds, coeluting peaks, and false positives from material emissions from car interiors.
Additionally, this work presents an “on demand” reagent ion switching device (reagent gas supply unit) for reagent gas variation without gas supply and hardware changes.
