Analysis of Inorganic Nanoparticles in Complex Matrices

Analysis of Inorganic Nanoparticles by Single-Particle Inductively Coupled Plasma Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry

Hendriks, Lyndsey, et al.
CHIMIA International Journal for Chemistry, 2018
DOI: 10.2533/chimia.2018.221

In this contribution, Hendriks et al. review the theory of single particle (sp) analysis by means of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and discuss its impact on the analysis of inorganic nanoparticles and nanotechnology risk assessment. Using the icpTOF, the researchers demonstrate multi-element advantages of sp-ICP-time-of-flight MS for detection of mixtures of particles with different elemental compositions and apply the technique for the matrix-independent analysis of inorganic nanoparticles in orange juice and milk.
