icpTOF质谱元素成像分析洞察岩石样品内Fault Formation机理

High‐Resolution, Quantitative Element Imaging of an Upper Crust, Low‐Angle Cataclasite by Laser Ablation ICP Time‐of‐Flight Mass Spectrometry

This elemental imaging work illustrates how the icpTOF, in combination with a fast laser ablation system, can successfully determine the chemical and mineralogical compositions of complex rock samples.

Alexander Gundlach-Graham and coworkers used fast laser ablation technology coupled to an icpTOF for elemental imaging of mineralogically and texturally complex fault rock samples from the Zuccale Fault on the Italian Island of Elba. They showed how this instrument combination generates element maps in unprecedented speed and quality. The maps of the investigated multi-phase rocks were quantified and provided unique insights into the genesis of this rock formation.
